Hi, my name is Alex Band, I am the Head PGA Assistant Professional based at Worcester Golf & Country Club. I have been based at Worcester Golf & Country Club for the past 15 years, first as a member, then as part of the professional team since 2016, and later turning professional in 2018, aged 18. I was honored to be the Club's Junior Captain in 2017, and also represented Worcestershire County Boys team at all age groups. I am proud to tell you that I was a key member of the team that won the West Midland Boys League in 2017, the biggest title Worcestershire had won in over twenty-five years.

One of my key roles as Head Assistant PGA Professional at Worcester Golf & Country Club is to increase junior participation and grow the junior section.

I have a strong belief that it is hugely beneficial for young people to participate in golf. It encourages a healthy active lifestyle and will help children to develop skills such as hand-eye coordination and self-discipline. Golf has many added benefits that other sports do not have, such as improving social skills, increasing independence and the opportunity to develop lifelong friendships, which I have. My personal experience of playing golf at a young age was very enjoyable and memorable, a choice I am glad I made.

As a coach, I believe that juniors should become accomplished short game players before worrying about full swing or the driver. All juniors are strong enough and capable to move a club in short, controlled movements, but they can sometimes struggle to make a full swing, due to strength or simply the weight and size of clubs. Therefore, it is key to make sure the equipment is the correct size and weight when being used to maximise performance. I have access to various clubs that can be borrowed for lessons or purchased once the correct fit is identified.
