To the members of Worcester Golf & Country Club, I would like to send my huge huge gratitude for hosting me today.
From the first email exchange, the offer of the captain's company to honestly the most wonderful of welcomes it has been incredible.
To walk in to a club as a stranger, on a time scale and be greeted by first the lad (sorry I didn't get his name) in the pro shop expecting me with well wishes and to then meet John and be escorted to the tee with everyone along the way being inquisitive and sharing well wishes was genuinely overwhelming. I'm not sure I've ever walked in to a golf club and felt more welcomed before.
On the course to receive the support and confidence of the members who were offering donations to a complete stranger was again overwhelming.
I want to offer you my biggest thank you of the day, it was truly my highlight round and it was all down to the welcome and John's hospitality, what a treat to fly round and enjoy a beer with you, could have stayed and chatted for many more.
Members donated £75 whilst I played the course. Thank you for your support.
I hope to see you again in the future and thank you again.
Results from the County Championships held at Hollywood GC this week. The A Team came 7th in their defence of the Tomson-James Cup. A great effort by Ben Woodward, Neil Grubb and Shaun Roberts, with Neil shooting a fine 75 in a high scoring day by all competitors. In the Jubilee Shield, our B Team also came a commendable 7th.
On Wednesday Shaun Roberts was trying to win back to back County Championships but narrowly missed out by losing by one shot, despite shooting an excellent 1 under par 143. Shaun won the Silver Medal and also the Philip Padmore Trophy for the best nett score over 36 holes, with a score of 141. Ben Woodward won the Bronze Medal with a score of 146. Shaun and Ben also qualified for the Worcestershire Matchplay Finals to be held later in the year. Special mention also goes to Giles Winthrop who came a creditable joint 9th, and just missed out on a place in the Matchplay Finals on a countback. Great performances also came from Simon Green and Neil Grubb, who came 16th and 17th respectively. Another great year for Worcester Golf & Country Club. Well done all!
More great news for Worcester Golf & Country Club. The Worcestershire County Seniors Championship was held at our great club today and many congratulations go to our very own Brian Heap who is now the Senior County Champion. Brian posted a great gross score of 1 under par 69. Nigel Cowley picked up the best nett prize with a 67. Well done and congratulations to Brian and Nigel.
