John Kartz presenting the funds raised during his year as Seniors Captain. He would to like thank everyone who contributed which helped to raise nearly £3000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice
I am absolutely delighted to be able to congratulate Captains Tony Sanders and Ben Woodward and their teams in winning these prestigious tournaments last Sunday.
They won with great sportsmanship and are a credit to WG&CC.
Tony reports as follows:
“The final of the Kidderminster Cup was played today at Droitwich Golf Club. Worcester G&CC A versus Moseley A.
Our opening pair of Simon Fletcher and Shaun Perry had a convincing 5 & 4 victory against their opposition. Simon replaced Duncan MacPherson who had elected to play in the Droitwich Shield final which is played on the same day. Shaun Perry had a really busy day with a Tennis Doubles Final to play at Worcester immediately afterwards.
Mark Carpenter and myself beat Pete Desmond and Brian Jobson 4 & 3. The game was played in a very good spirit as many of our opponents play Worcestershire County Seniors and are well known to each other.
The final pairing of Andy Baker, who had shown his commitment to playing by traveling back from Spain, and Brian Heap beat Ian Warner and partner 3 & 2.
The overall score was 3-0 to Worcester and the Kidderminster Cup was retained from last year.
I would also like to thank Sammy Woodward, Roger Crisp, Martin Lewis, and Paul Newman who all played their part in earlier rounds to allow us to reach the final and run out victorious.
I would also like to thank the members who came to watch and lend their support for the final. It is appreciated."
Ben reports as follows:
“WG&CC's A team faced Moseley Golf club once again in the final, this time we were victorious!
Starting the day Harrison Leaver and Neil Grubb faced tough opposition against Moseley's first pairing, one of which being our current Worcestershire County 1st team captain. They did their best but unfortunately lost 3 & 2.
Second off saw Shaun Roberts and Josh Bryan who, after being 1 down through 9 holes, managed a brilliant 3 & 1 victory.
Our final pairing, Duncan Macpherson and myself, after losing the first hole we managed to get ourselves ahead after 9 holes and got to 3 up with four to play. Then we were stood on the 18th tee all square. I found myself rather nervous. I stood on the tee, 7 iron in hand, and all I could hear in my head was... make contact...do not top it... not an ideal swing thought. Luckily, I made contact and saw the ball heading toward the green. Moseley were in the bunker and had a putt for par, up stepped Duncan Macpherson, who rolled our 20-foot birdie right in the middle for the win and to clinch the Droitwich Shield for WG&CC.
I want to say a huge thank you to my team and everybody involved in winning the shield for WG&CC. Special mention to Anthony Ottway, Simon Fletcher, and Steve Bird for playing a part in the team along the way. To Duncan Macpherson who throughout this year has played a huge part in both the Kidderminster Cup and Droitwich Shield, he faced a tough decision and unfortunately had to choose who to play for in the final. Last, but not least, Stuart Band who has helped me along the way this year.
Many thanks to all of those who came along to support, great to see some familiar faces.
I can’t go without saying, and I think I speak for all the team, a huge thank you to our biggest supporter, caddy, and chief ball spotter to us all at some point this year, Trevor Woodward."

Following our semi-final win at Burghill Golf Club, against Hollywood Golf Club, we went into the 2021 final of the Droitwich League.
This was played on Friday September 17th at Ombersley Golf Club, this being the organisers club and a neutral venue.
We played Churchill & Blakedown Golf Club, and all five of the ladies from WG&CC had to give shots, but the result was a win for WG&CC 3-2!!!!!
The match was followed by a lovely afternoon tea, provided by Ombersley Golf Club, where the runners up were presented with their plate and the winners their shield.
Formal presentations will be made to both Clubs at the Droitwich League AGM, which is on 16th October where both finalists teams are invited to a morning 9-hole competition followed by a lunch and then the Droitwich League AGM.
This is first time Worcester Golf & Country Club have won this shield.
A big thank you to all the 14 ladies who put their names down to play in the round robin matches, and especially to
the five ladies who played in the semi final and final matches.
I think our Wild flower beds are worth celebrating as they have proved to be a success with the local wildfife
