The Lady’ Captain’s Charity for 2012 is Sight Concern Worcestershire, a local organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people with little or no vision. Among the many activites they organise is a Blind Golfers’ Society, and involving as many sections of the community as possible in the game we all love to play is obviously good for the whole sport.
Welcome to the Ladies Page of the Worcester Golf and Country Club Website.
The Ladies Section has appoximately 100 members covering a spectrum of ages, plus five Junior Girls. We are keen to increase the Junior Girls membership, and would welcome applications from any young person who is interested.
We have a very enthusiastic and vibrant committee who generate a supportive, competitive yet friendly atmosphere. We are most fortunate to have Graham Farr as our Professional who is always willing to give us help and advice.
The Competition Day for Ladies is on a Tuesday. The ladies play a wide variety of competitions, including Stableford, medals and winter eclectics. We award a large number of trophies for singles, pairs and team events. In addition we also play a number of informal competitions. A draw for partners allows many players the opportunity to mix with ladies with differing levels of competence.
Teams are entered in the Scratch League and the Droitwich League, The Mail on Sunday team competition and The Daily Mail Foursomes. Our Ladies play friendly team matches against other clubs.
Three Opens are organised each year - June Ladies Open - August Am Am - September Three Ball Alliance. The Ladies Charity Foursomes is held in July and we were honoured to host the Charles Healey Challenge Bowl Final in September 2011. This prestigious charity event is a competition open to all finalists from Ladies’ Golf Clubs from Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. We are fortunate all of our competitions are well supported. Everyone is welcome.
Mixed Golf.
For those members who enjoy playing mixed golf there is plenty to offer.
The annual matches include those against the Seniors, Past Captain’s and Juniors, Ladies and Gentlemen Invitations together with the Essell Cup and the Amery Cup. Mixed friendly competitions, and friendly matches against other clubs are played on Sundays.
New Members.
We are working hard to encourage new members of all ages – and golfing ability - to join the ladies section. We have established a successful programme for ladies wishing to learn to play golf. Ladies are introduced to golf with lessons from our professional Graham Farr and subsequently offered temporary membership for the summer months. As ‘Taster Ladies' they are helped by lady members to improve their play and consider the advantages of becoming a member of the Worcester Golf and Country Club.
Additional facilities.
As well as Golf, there are facilities for playing Tennis, Squash and Snooker.
A number of ladies play bridge and the size of this section is increasing. Ladies and gentlemen both experienced and beginners play together informally and more recently a programme of friendly matches for ladies against other clubs have been introduced.
Social Calendar
The Social Committee are very active and organise a variety of events throughout the year including a New Years Eve Dinner and Dance, Burns Night, Summer Ball, Race and theme nights.
Diane and her staff offer a first class dining facility and superb Sunday Lunches.
If you would like to find out more about our golf club, just let me or any member of the committee know, and we will be more than happy to welcome you, spend some time with you and show you around for we are proud to be members of the Worcester Golf and Country Club.
